MetaMask offers a solution for everyday crypto spending
Traditionally, cryptocurrency payments for everyday purchases involve multiple steps: transferring crypto to an exchange, converting it to fiat currency, and then transferring those funds to a traditional bank account. The MetaMask Card simplifies this process by allowing users to directly spend their crypto on any Mastercard-supported purchase. This means users can use their crypto to pay for groceries, online purchases, and more.
The MetaMask card supports spending USDC, USDT, and WETH via the Linea network. It offers key benefits such as security and transaction speed. Transactions powered by Linea are processed quickly, and users retain control of their crypto assets via their self-held MetaMask wallet until transactions are complete.
Raj Dhamodharan, executive vice president at Mastercard, said the collaboration aims to improve the security and ease of transactions for self-held wallet users. Simon Jones, chief commercial officer at Baanx, noted that the product could have a significant impact on financial accessibility, particularly in regions with large unbanked populations.
A step towards the future of payments
The MetaMask Card is currently in pilot phase with a limited number of digital cards available for users in the EU and UK, with plans to expand to other regions in the coming months. This initiative represents a major step forward in bridging the gap between the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems, giving users more freedom to spend their crypto assets.
