Women paid more than men in the crypto industry, according to a study!

A new study from Pantera Capital reveals a surprising reverse gender pay gap in the crypto industry. While women are often underpaid in other sectors, here they earn 15% more than their male counterparts.

An Inverted Wage Gap in Crypto

Between June 4 and July 20, 2024, Pantera Capital used platforms like LinkedIn and newsletters to conduct a study on salaries in the crypto industry. The survey, which collected data from 502 full-time employees in the United States, revealed a surprising reverse pay gap. In fact, women earn an average of 15% more than their male counterparts in the sector.

According to numbersthe median salary for women is $172,000, compared to $150,000 for men. This is in stark contrast to the general data for the U.S. labor market, where women typically earn $0.84 for every dollar earned by a man. This highlights a trend toward greater pay equity in the cryptocurrency industry.

The reasons behind this wage gap

Pantera Capital’s survey suggests that the inverted pay gap in crypto could be due to a combination of specific factors. In fact, women working in the sector have, on average, more experience than their male counterparts, with a median of 5.3 years compared to 4.5 years for men.

This increased experience could explain their greater presence in mid- to senior-level positions, where salaries are generally higher. The researchers noted that men often start at lower levels in this sector, while women move up to leadership roles more quickly.

However, women are underrepresented in leadership positions within the crypto industry. A report by Forex Suggest states that in 2023, only three of the top 50 CEOs in the sector were women. This imbalance highlights that there is still a long way to go to achieve true gender equality, despite advances in fair pay.
