A fine connoisseur of the cryptocurrency and bitcoin ecosystem, Alexandre Stachtchenko develops a macroeconomic analysis of the issues relating to digital assets. He stopped at the Tremplin.io microphone during the Surfin’Bitcoin 2023 conference. An event during which he notably discussed the existing links between Bitcoin and sobriety.
Based in particular on the IPCC report, he believes that bitcoin would have a virtuous role to play at the global level. It could ease the geopolitical tensions that exist between countries, “forced” to collaborate around a new currency freed from the dollar. In other words, it could offer common ground in a tense global context. Thus, BTC could (among other things) be compatible with a scenario in which geopolitics would not be in favor of cooperation (spoiler: this unfortunately strongly resembles our current world).

Bitcoin, an incentive for ecology
Indeed, bitcoin offers an incentive for ecological transition. By making bitcoin a strong energy lever, it would force countries to enter a race for carbon-free energy. According to Alexandre Stachchenko, it is in fact “profitable” to be ecological in the Bitcoin system: miners must look for unused surplus electricity from renewable energy. Without falling into blind techno-solutionism, it is in any case an encouraging perspective which encourages us to take a step aside.
