BRICS consider freeing themselves from American Internet services

The BRICS member countries want to put an end to Western hegemony carried by the United States. The realization of this project has monetary and financial implications linked to the dollar. But in fact, the ambition of the group of countries is sprawling. It would also concern Internet services of which the Americans are currently the bosses.

BRICS could opt for alternative internet infrastructure

As part of the BRICS policy aimed at limiting the influence of the United States, an innovative technological proposal has just emerged. She suggests the establishment of a unified Internet service, reserved for BRICS member countries.

The proposal comes from Russia, notably from the control committee of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament. It is supported by Dmitry Gusev, the head of this Russian parliamentary body.

The parliamentarian advocates the development of an alternative Internet infrastructure, independent of American communications devices. The idea is to reduce the control exercised by the United States over world news.

To do this, Dmitry Gusev calls on the BRICS countries to break their ties with existing Internet services dominated by the United States. The global ecosystem of the Internet is tailor-made to correspond to Western aspirations while disregarding those of other peoples.

Questioning absolute American control over the Internet?

In the Russian MP’s opinion, the global Internet landscape is heavily skewed in favor of the United States. Thus, social media, news outlets and entertainment sources emanate mainly from the West.

He wants this situation to change. For this, the parliamentarian proposes to place BRICS services at the forefront of the Internet sphere. Which would call into question the domination of the United States in this sector.

For Dmitry Gusev, an Internet universe “where traditional values ​​and kindness prevail”, would be the solution for a secure digital space that protects from Westernization. The big question remains whether the recommended idea can reasonably come to fruition. In any case, the option should require shared technical and organizational capabilities.

This is far from being won when we know that the BRICS still share differences related to the monetary policy of the alliance. What is certain, however, is that their strategy of annihilating American influence does not only involve weakening the American dollar. Their policy also includes the dismantling of American hegemony on the Internet and the creation of an alternative to the SWIFT banking network. Which can generally be interpreted as good for the booming Web 3.0 crypto ecosystem.
