Prague, Bitcoin Capital of Europe

Without warning, the Czech Republic is now hosting the largest European Bitcoin conference. Tremplin.io was there and here are some highlights.

Bitmain, Trezor, Wasabi, Samourai, Braiins, they were all there

While the Bitcoin conference in Miami saw the number of participants halve, the Czech brothers Matyáš and Martin Kuchař have succeeded in organizing the largest European conference.

Without a doubt, the presence of many industry players made the event special. Especially since the ticket to meet them all (outside the conference) cost almost nothing.

Among the few hundred companies present, there were companies including SatoshiLabs, Blockstream, Bitmain, Trezor, Braiins, Wasabi and Samourai wallets, Tropic Square, mempool, or even Bitmain.

Also present in large numbers are companies specializing in the reuse of the heat produced by ASICs. Migodi, Energy21 or the Polish DCX.

We will also note the presence of many companies focused on the conservation of its seed such as seedor, Bitbox, Stamp seed, Tiny seed which have certainly helped more than one uninitiated to become familiar with what a seed is.

Ledger was once again the target of jeers because of its “recover” service:

Michael Saylor

The star of the conference was of course Gigachad. Every seat was occupied in the room for his two speaking engagements. Among the punchlines of the CEO of Microstrategy, I will retain:

“No country can stop inflation. No one can stop inflation. I can put you at the head of the world, you couldn’t stop the inflation”.

“An endless economic war is raging around the world. It has been raging since the dawn of time. This war is about the redistribution of economic ENERGY, which we call “wealth”.

Two very interesting statements in the eyes of yours truly who intimately thinks that the growing difficulty in extracting the queen of energies – oil – reduces productivity, which forces us to plug the holes by incurring more debt in a hyperinflationary headlong rush. Two articles on the subject: “Why so much inflation”, “Why so much debt”.

Another very interesting statement:

“Over a year, 85% of the performance of the S&P500 index occurs during a single day. And 100% in just 36 hours. […] Trading is the sign of intellectual inferiority. »

In other words, just hodl!

Privacy Bitcoin and Ordinals

BTCPrague will upload all the speeches on its channel Youtube. In the meantime, here are some highlights.

I will remember that of Max Hillebrand, CEO of zkSNACKs, the company that sponsors the development of Wasabi Wallet and several projects such as BtcPay, Cold Card or Bisq. Max presented the CoinJoin of the Wasabi wallet now integrated into the cold wallet Trezor.

We talked about it in these articles:

  • Trezor and Wasabi spark controversy
  • Wasabi vs Samourai, the privacy war

CoinJoins are simply covert transactions because they have a very large number of participants. And as Max Hillebrand said, thanks to coinjoins, “Bitcoin is now p… of perfect”.

The developer Giacomo also caused a sensation by pulverizing the “ordinals” during a very playful presentation. Ordinal is a new word popularized to describe JPEGs supposedly “linked” to “unique” satoshis via “inscriptions”. A kind of NFT that would be immanent in Bitcoin.

The problem being that these Jpegs unnecessarily increase the disk space needed to run your own node. Not to mention the increase in transaction fees or the fact that the people at BSV (Faketoshi) are behind this fad…

Beyond these already well-known flaws, Giacomo has dismantled many arguments and reviewed many technical details. A must see when the video is online.

Lea Petras, CEO of the new Vexl application also attracted customers. Its No KYC application allows you to buy bitcoins in P2P. It was THE novelty unveiled in Prague. Completely free, Vexl allows you to exchange bitcoins with friends and friends of friends, all encrypted and without any collection of personal data. Visit the website of VEXL to download it.

The elders were there

Blockstream CEO Adam Back took the stage to talk mining with Braiins CEO Jan Čapek and the president of sales at Bitmain. We will remember the discomfort triggered by the latter who did not know what an ASIC engraving process (5 nm, 3 nm, etc.) was…

Imperturbable, screwed in his seat and staring at an army of bitcoiners, Adam Back discussed all the opportunities that bitcoin mining offers. And especially for energy companies who do not lack surpluses.

Core dev Peter Todd spoke to him about Bitcoin attack vectors and why you need to spin your own node. Note this statement: “If you’re a bitcoiner, but you pay by card and not cash, I don’t respect you.”

Other veterans like the CEO of SatoshiLabs (main sponsor of the conference) Pavol Rusnak also took the floor to talk about the ethos of open source and hardware wallets.

Trezor is working hard on a “secure element” that will prevent physical attacks aimed at recovering the seed. According to Pavol Rusnal, this Secure Element will be “ready in a few months or a few years” thanks to the efforts of Tropic Square, a daughter company of SatoshiLabs.

In short, we attended what is already the largest Bitcoin conference in Europe. With BTCPrague, SatoshiLabs, Brains, Trezor, Wasabi, Bitcoinmat (ATM), the Czech Republic is undoubtedly the most orange country in Europe.
